 SpaceX Developing Faster Gigabit Starlink Internet and Upgraded Mini Dish

SpaceX is working on a new generation of Starlink satellite Internet technology that will significantly boost download speeds and improve portability. The company is developing a high-speed dish capable of delivering gigabit-level performance, along with an improved version of its compact Starlink Mini kit.


Next-Generation Starlink Mini Kit


At a recent vendor event, SpaceX revealed plans for a second-generation Starlink Mini Kit, featuring a more compact and portable dish. This upgraded version aims to enhance convenience for users who need reliable satellite Internet on the go. While specific technical improvements have yet to be disclosed, a key goal of the redesign may be reducing the price, making the Mini Kit more affordable. Currently, the Mini Kit is being sold at a discount of $100 at Best Buy but still remains more expensive than the Standard Kit, which retails for $349.99.


Additionally, SpaceX is enhancing its Flat High-Performance dish, designed for use on moving vehicles and in challenging weather conditions. This model offers a wider field of view and improved GPS capabilities, ensuring better connectivity in various environments.


Gigabit-Level Starlink Internet Speeds


Beyond hardware improvements, SpaceX is preparing to roll out a new dish capable of achieving gigabit download speeds—a major leap from the current 200 Mbps average. The company has not specified whether this high-speed upgrade will be an enhanced version of the Flat High-Performance dish or an entirely new product targeted at enterprise users.


Last year, SpaceX announced plans to deploy V3 Starlink satellites, designed to provide up to 2 Gbps download speeds and lower latency. However, the new gigabit dish will first need to gain approval from the FCC, where SpaceX is advocating for increased power limits and permission to operate at lower altitudes. These regulatory changes could enable better service for existing users while preparing for the next-gen Starlink network with wider bandwidth and enhanced performance.


If SpaceX successfully secures regulatory approval, Starlink customers may experience faster speeds through dish aggregation while they await the next-generation terminals optimized for the V3 satellite constellation.
